Description

Offering a breathtaking view over the heights of the Vosges massif, the Route of the Ridwes winds its way along the highest peaks of the Vosges massif, between Alsace and Lorraine. This scenic route, one of the most beautiful in France, has its origins in the Great War. Built by the French, it was used to supply the Vosges front and evacuate wounded soldiers to the rear. The nearby battlefields of Hartmannswillerkopf and Linge are a reminder of this painful history.

Today, the route of the Ridges  offers a peaceful view of the high Vosges stubble fields and mountain pastures where the famous Vosges cows graze. Their milk is used to produce Munster, the Alsatian cheese by excellence.

Accessible only from the beginning of May to the beginning of November

Did you know...?

Take advantage of your panoramic tour with a guide to visit the battlefields or climb to the summit of Grand Ballon, the highest point in the Vosges massif (1424 meters). And don't forget to stop for a gourmet meal at one of the many farm inns along the way. A traditional Vosges peasant meal, it is composed entirely of farm produce: potatoes, meat and, of course, munster cheese. A guaranteed change of scenery!

This visit can be combined with those to Hartmannswillerkopf and Linge.
